david_kinchen_1.jpg As the final weeks of being President of the Water Design Build Council conclude in 2015, I stand amazed by what we have accomplished within the very spirit of collaboration that is design build.  Over the past year, the Water Design-Build Council has held true to its mission:

"To evolve best practices for successful implementation of water projects through collaborative delivery methods – by facilitating thought leadership through education, research and communication."

Through sweat equity, hard work and commitment of our member organizations and the individuals with whom I serve, the Water Design Build Council has more than accomplished its mission, in addition to meeting its strategic goals for the year. Industry education, one of the key tenants of our work, has been accelerated through collaboration with key industry organizations such as DBIA, NACWA, AWWA and AWI, just to name a few.  Our members and staff also engaged with owner organizations throughout North America by providing much needed guidance and the technical resources.

I am deeply humbled when I look back on not just this past year, but looking back at the nine years of industry leadership and commitment to collaborative project delivery by the Water Design Build Council.

Serving alongside industry icons such as Mark Alpert, Don Evans, Peter Tunnecliff, Chuck Williams, and the many other Board members with whom I’ve worked has shaped my view of our industry in a very positive way. The men and woman of the Water Design Build Council are sincerely committed to making our industry better for all stakeholders. This is the essence of collaboration and just a mere glimpse of what collaborative project delivery can do to overcome project challenges, and the ultimate outcome when best practices and collaborative attitudes align to deliver the best project experience available for the client.

When looking forward to 2016 and beyond, I am filled with excitement with the new work products from the Water Design Build Council – the updated Handbook and Fixed-Price Procurement Guide are two great examples.

But most importantly, I want to thank each and everyone in the industry who has supported the Board in the past year, and in particular, the Water Design Build Council's efforts over the last 10 years. The Council will be dedicating the upcoming Annual Report to charting the “Decade of Progress,” capturing the remarkable industry accomplishments.

This report will be published in early January, and I encourage those of you who are not yet participants to consider the value of working with passionate professionals that are truly shaping the industry and creating more value for our clients through acting out our mission daily.
