A nationally-recognized expert on project delivery systems and author of several books on the subject, Michael has worked on some of the country’s most complex public sector design-build projects in the transportation and water/wastewater sectors. Some of his notable engagements include DC Water’s Clean River and Biosolids programs, the City of Houston’s Northeast Water Purification Plant Expansion Project, and Metropolitan Wastewater District’s Northeast Treatment Plant.
As a former member of DBIA’s Board of Directors, he authored DBIA’s standard form contracts, and led DBIA’s development of its “Design-Build Done Right” publication, which identifies best practices for all industry sectors. In recognition of his contributions to the design-build industry, DBIA awarded Mike with its lifetime achievement award (the Brunelleschi Medal) in 2013. Mike is a Fellow in the American College of Construction Lawyers, a member of the National Academy of Construction, and an adjunct professor at George Mason University’s Volgenau School of Engineering. He holds a civil engineering degree from Tufts University and a law degree from Boston University School of Law.
