September 24th Design-Build Education and Training Integrates the Lessons Learned Research for Design-Build Projects
WDBC’s September 24th education and training session for city and county officials, managers and staff as well as employees of private industry - provides essential knowledge needed to plan for, procure and manage design-build projects for the water and wastewater infrastructure. Furthermore, this program integrates the findings from the Lessons-Learned Research of owners using design-build delivery
Session topics include:
Preparing an organization for design-build delivery
Design-Build delivery methods for water infrastructure projects
Understanding the differences in the procurement procedures used for the delivery methods
Risk, liability and contracting for design-build projects
Attendees will participate in experiential exercises designed to apply the lessons learned to real life projects. CEU's will be awarded at the end of the session. Full online registration will be available on the new website.

How Much Control Should Owners and Managers Have in a Design-Build Project?
The amount and length of control an owner “should” have, or “wants to have” in a design-build project has truly become one of the more discussed themes – most recently from WDBC’s Lessons Learned Survey as well as in our education sessions. And while it may be debated as to whether this question is the most critical one, especially within the context of the whole project, it is really a very important and serious question.
It is a question that Owners should thoroughly address, and decide upon at the beginning of any project. The reason is a very compelling and critical one, and one that has inter-related topics. In any project where risks are involved, there is the need to define how risk will be managed early on, in order to minimize and avoid the conflicting control roles later in the implementation process of the project.
The Water Design-Build Council is a not-for-profit association established in 2006 to educate best practices in design-build and construction management-at-risk procurement delivery. Implementing this mission occurs through education and outreach, serving in a leadership role as an industry advocate for the value of collaborative delivery for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
