Last Call for Input into our 2018 Research Project!
Your feedback is vitally important to understanding the use of collaborative design-build procurement. What are the trends, and why are they being used? WDBC’s 2018 research will examine the specific trends being used in the industry of fixed-price design-build, progressive design-build, and CMAR. Everyone will benefit from a better understanding of the advantages derived from each of the three major collaborative procurement approaches for water and wastewater projects. Click the link today!
WDBC Welcomes New Allied Member – Tesco Controls, Inc.
As one of the largest system integrators in North America devoted to water and wastewater, and one of Transparency Market Research’s Top 10 global water/wastewater management and operational control companies, Tesco Controls, Inc. is distinctly qualified to design and build advanced control systems for the industry. They are a 100% employee-owned, CSIA®-certified, full-service company with 45+ years of experience in the design and implementation of control system solutions required to automate water treatment, distribution, and related processes.
Joining the WDBC Board of Directors for Tesco is Brian Adams, PE. Mr. Adams began his career as a hard-bid contractor in the heavy civil construction space, then later as a mechanical contractor in the high-rise space. In the 1990’s, after selling his companies, he went back to school and received a BS in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999. Mr. Adams practiced as a PE in various roles at several national and global consulting firms focused on water and wastewater projects. Most recently he was a key team member of the water design-build sales group for a multinational firm that designs and constructs water and wastewater treatment plants. In January of 2018, he joined Tesco Controls, Inc. as the Director of Design-Build Projects.
Tesco’s alternate board member is CEO Shain Thomas. Under his leadership and strategic direction, the 45-year-old employee-owned company has doubled its size in the last four years and has partnered on some of the country’s largest water system design-build projects.
Mr. Thomas believes strongly in inspiring innovation and superior customer service from his teams by providing a positive work environment and self-improvement opportunities. His infectious, ‘can-do’ attitude encourages employees to dig deep to find solutions to challenging customer problems. Tesco has also encouraged agencies and municipalities to learn the benefits of using design-build and collaborative delivery methods by sponsoring educational opportunities. As a new board member, Thomas looks forward to furthering the work of the WDBC in educating and advocating for collaborative delivery methods.

How Treatability Testing and an Inegrated Advanced Oxidation Treatment System Optimized Delivery Speed for a Water Treatment Plant Experiencing Harmful Algal Blooms
In June of 2013, utility managers at the Anderson Regional Joint Water System (ARJWS) in Anderson, South Carolina, began experiencing intermittent taste and odor impacts to their finished potable water. This led to customer complaints and public relations challenges for the utility. The problems were due to the increasing occurrence of algal blooms in their source water body, Lake Hartwell.
The Water Design-Build Council stands ready to contribute its expertise, resources, innovation and enthusiasm to the challenge of strengthening our water and wastewater infrastructure.
