New Project Spotlight: Cutter Lateral Reach 21 Water Treatment Plant & Conveyance Pipelines (NM)
No one needs to be reminded that water is essential for life. Water in the Four Corners region is in short supply for many communities and available water is often of poor quality. In order to mitigate water contamination and scarcity, the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project was conceived, and a significant portion of the project, the Cutter Lateral, is near completion in Summer 2020. Multiple state and federal agencies are involved with this massive project. The Cutter Lateral will soon deliver potable water to communities in San Juan, Sandoval, and Rio Arriba Counties.

All of us have had to adapt to COVID challenges at work and at home. Now it seems like everyone is getting used to virtual meetings and video conference calls with work colleagues and family members. The same is true for us at the Water Design-Build Council. Since March 2020, all of our WDBC meetings have been virtual and our 2020 in-person owner training sessions have either been cancelled or postponed. But that has not dampened the enthusiasm of our Education Committee and our Education Committee Chairman Leofwin Clark. Leofwin and his team have taken the opportunity during these COVID-challenging times to elevate our training modules to an online virtual format. During the second half of the year we are providing online training for our members and we will be adapting our education modules to a virtual format which we hope to launch with owners in 2021.
Why Should Water Collaborative-Delivery Projects Have an Integrated Design Manager?
The idea of an integrated design management role for collaborative-delivery projects is not a new one. For over 20 years, vertical commercial collaborative-delivery projects have assigned an integrated design manager to drive seamless collaboration for overall project success. However, when describing this position in the water industry, the immediate response is, “What is an integrated design manager?”
