WDBC Welcomes New Advisor Member: Teichert
Teichert is a family-owned business that has been building trust since 1887. Headquartered in Sacramento, Teichert’s family of businesses include Teichert Construction (the oldest active California Contractor License #8), Teichert Energy & Utilities Group, Teichert Pipelines, and Teichert Materials. From the earliest roadways in San Francisco and Sacramento, to the most current water and wastewater conveyance, treatment, and replenishment facilities throughout the state, and all of the highways in between, Teichert has the experience and capability to lead and deliver critical and innovative infrastructure projects for the next century with current operations throughout California and Western Nevada. Representing Teichert to the Advisor Group is John Solis, Regional Manager for Teichert Energy & Utilities Group. John has over 20 years of experience in estimating and execution of large-scale complex infrastructure projects. John’s areas of expertise span pipeline conveyance and treatment systems for water, wastewater, groundwater replenishment, oil & gas transmission and distribution systems, including pump stations, compressor stations, valve stations and primary metering facilities. John has pursued and executed hard-bid, design-build, EPC, EPCM, and provided front-end design and engineering services for projects across North America, including Mexico and Canada. He also has vast experience in engineering, conducting feasibility analyses and execution of trenchless rehabilitation techniques, including horizontal directional drilling, slip-lining, pipe bursting, pipeline relining, steel liner plate and micro-tunneling.
Message from WDBC President Larry Johnson, PE, DBIA, PMP
A couple of weeks ago on my regular Friday morning weekly coordination call with Mark Alpert, our Executive Director, and Bob Golden, our Business Operations Manager, we discussed several current WDBC activities going on including the research being performed by Ken Rubin (Rubin Mallows Worldwide) and his team working with our Research Committee, branding consulting with Stacy Lewis (Sector Brands) under the direction of our Communications Committee, the work of Michelle Green (Technical Practices Committee Chair) and her CMAR agreement work group, and an upcoming meeting with Don Cardona (Cardona Creative) about recording an online training module for our Education Committee. During our open discussion about these and other topics, it struck us how productive the WDBC has become over the years, and particularly during this challenging 2020 COVID year. If you take a step back and look at the work we have completed and are currently working on, there is a common theme: The work of the WDBC brings our members together to get stuff done. We develop and transfer information and knowledge to owners and practitioners; we develop and reflect best practices in collaborative delivery; and we enhance competition in the water industry. I very much enjoy my Friday morning calls with Mark and Bob!
Keeping Your Projects Moving Forward When the World is Telling You to Stop
The world enters another month of the COVID-19 pandemic and we all slowly continue to figure out how to deal with it. “This new normal,” “in these uncertain times,” and wishing friends and colleagues to “stay safe” are the phrases of today. We use these now because they are necessary. As of mid-July, COVID-19 has infected over 13 million people worldwide {update 10/6/2020: 35.5 million} and caused over 580,000 deaths {update 10/6/2020: over 1 million} – over 135,000 in the United States alone {update 10/6/2020: 208,787}. For a time, the U.S. economy essentially shut down and the unemployment rate went from 3.6% in January to 11.1% in June. Children went to school from home or stopped altogether, and now I have masks for my family hanging next to my car keys in the kitchen. This is all anything but normal.
