A special workshop on Integrating Life-Cycle Costs and Asset Management into the Procurement of Design-Build Delivery for Water/Wastewater Projects was recently conducted by the Water Design-Build Council members at the 2014 AWWA/WEF Utility Management Conference in Savanna, GA. Factors in these sessions also address in the transition process for operations and maintenance and reaching agreement on risk between owners and design-builders.  WDBC will bring this workshop to your organization to answer the many questions on this topic with developing design-build projects.

Factoring Life-Cycle Costs into the Procurement Process for Water/Wastewater Projects – Bryan Bedell (Haskell) and Brian Daly (AECOM) introduces the delivery approaches and typical steps involved in the procurement process for design-build projects. Presenters compare/contrast the specific delivery methods; and integrate life-cycle costs and other factors in the procurement process.

Selection Criteria Integrating Performance and Operation Requirements for Asset Management – David Kinchen (Black & Veatch) and John Awezec (HDR, Inc.), discusses the actual “reality” scenario of developing selection criteria for a design-build delivery method integrating lifecycle costs.

Reaching Agreement on Risk Liability Between a Utility Owner and Design-Builder –Liz Kelly (CH2MHill) as a former utility director, this presents a candid perspective of what owners need to focus on in defining the levels of risk in the contract between owners and a design-build entity.

Managing the Transition Process in Project Start-up and/or Commissioning for Design-Build projects – Mark Halleman (Parsons) and Brian Daly (AECOM) use actual projects as examples to present the critical factors involved in the transition process of design-build projects requiring attention.

Successful Attributes of Design-Build-Operate Projects, a presentation derived from the new chapter in the 3rd Edition of the WDBC Municipal Handbook on Water and Wastewater Design-Build Projects, was recently presented to a delegation of Viet Nam officials at the World Bank by Linda Hanifin Bonner, Ph.D (WDBC) and Mark Halleman (Parsons).  Using current DBO projects as examples, the contents focus on the priorities defined by owners, the successful features, and lessons learned from the use of the collaborative delivery method for design-build-operate.
