Welcome WDBC New Advisors!

The WDBC Advisor Group was formed to validate the importance of those firms who work in the water design-build sector and provide services that enhance the WDBC’s mission to advance design-build delivery methods and transform the water industry - through thought leadership and education, supported by research. Participants in this group meet with WDBC Board members to provide another sector of industry experiences in developing best practices for collaborative delivery. 

Representing The Walsh Group is Dan Reynolds, VP/COO; from PCL Construction is Ken Slota, Special Project Manager; and from HD Supply Waterworks is Andy Santi, Marketing Director. We look forward to their collaboration in our ongoing work.

Key Management Steps for Collaborative Delivery Projects

The newly released Water and Wastewater Design-Build Handbook focuses on the key management activities that ensure a contract signed with a collaborative-delivery firm leads to a working relationship built upon trust, respect and collaboration.

Step 1: When a contract is signed, the owner and the collaborative-delivery firm work together throughout the project with the shared goal of delivering a quality project on time and within budget. Communication among all team members is transparent, frequent, and timely, focusing on project items as they occur before they become issues.

Step 2: In design-build projects, the design-builder is the single point of contact who is responsible for both design and construction. This allows the owner to be a participant in the design process without serving as an intermediary.

Step 3: In a CMAR project, the owner has separate contractual relationships with the engineering and CMAR firms, therefore they serve as an intermediary between the two. Although the CMAR firm serves as the construction manager during design and is actively involved in the design process, the firm assumes no design risk or responsibility. This responsibility remains with the owner.

These key management steps are also an essential module in the WDBC Education and Training Program.
