2016 Water and Wastewater Conference Re-Cap

Owner's Advisors was clearly a hot topic at the 2016 Water and Wastewater Design-Build Conference, in Charlotte, NC.

Participant questions and comments were kickstarted with a panel discussion during the opening session of the conference, and continued through to the end of the two day program. They were most prevalent, however, at the standing-room only presentation of Role and Responsibilities of an Owner’s Advisor by WDBC members David Kinchen, Bill Hixon, Phil Sudol and Mike Cecil. The impact of this response was quite telling: There is a need for education, but more importantly, for understanding the differences between an owner's advisor and a program manager.

The Owner's Advisor presentation highlighted key points from the new section included in the 4th Edition of the Water and Wastewater Design-Build Handbook. This topic is also incorporated into WDBC’s Education and Training Program – and in June, will be an addition to the “Leadership Guide” brochure series.

In the upcoming weeks, WDBC will also launch a discussion forum for owners to share their questions and experiences surrounding this topic. Keep an eye out for special announcements and instructions.

4th Edition of the Water and Wastewater Design-Build Handbook Update

The 4th Edition of the Water and Wastewater Design-Build Handbook is almost ready! We apologize for the unexpected delay, however there were a few additional and important updates to be included. The Handbook is now at the printer, and is being prepped for download from the WDBC website by the end of next week.  A special notice will be sent out with additional information on the collaborative role of the DBIA on the Handbook and distribution.

A special online purchase form will also be available on the website for hard copies of the Handbook to be mailed to requestors, with the anticipated delivery date of mid-May. We will continue to keep you updated on this progress.
