Meet WDBC President Michael B. Watson, PE, Senior VP - Water, Stantec
Elected at our annual meeting in December 2020, WDBC President Mike Watson assumed his role on January 1, 2021. Mike previously served as the first vice president/treasurer of the Council in 2020 and second vice president/secretary in 2019.
Based in Sacramento, California, Mike draws on the global resources and talents of the company to create high-performing design teams who partner with contractors and developers to successfully deliver design-build and P3 water and wastewater treatment, water resources, and conveyance projects across North America.
Prior to this position, Mike was the West Division Director for MWH Americas Engineering and Technical Services (ETS) with P&L, revenue growth, and project delivery responsibility for a $150M per year, 500-person professional services unit. He specializes in team-building, strategic pursuits, risk management, claim management and negotiations, and executive engagement.
We look forward to Mike's leadership and collaboration skills!
Six-Session Package of Online Education Starts January 2021
Join the WDBC for a six-session package of online education sessions designed for owners and practitioners in the water industry. Officials, managers, and engineering and O&M staff of public water/wastewater facilities who are looking to gain essential knowledge needed to procure and deliver design-build and CMAR projects should attend these classes.
Each session will include a review of the principles and best practices of collaborative delivery as well as the topic of the day:
January 28: Deciding to Implement a Collaborative-Delivery Project February 25: Risk Management March 25: Contracts April 22: Conducting the Procurement Process May 27: Managing & Implementing Collaborative-Delivery Projects June 24: Getting to Project Completion & Transition
All sessions will be conducted on Microsoft Teams from 10:00 - 1:30 p.m. MST (break 11:30 - 12:00 MST)
Compared to the traditional design-bid-build method, design-build delivery can accelerate design and construction schedules by 20% to 30%. Many cities and counties have implemented new fast-tracked permitting review processes to reduce the turnaround time for issuing permits, which are critical to maintaining the construction schedule.
The Water Design-Build Council stands ready to contribute its expertise, resources, innovation, and enthusiasm to the challenge of strengthening our water and wastewater infrastructure.
